the 'obvious' thing to use I guess would be an old typewriter, but instead of hitting a flexible gauze-like ink thingie, whatever that part is called, it would hit strings, 'somehow'. They might rotate a certain way or present themselves as a result of key/scale signature and/or even chord/serial patterns chosen.
Drawbacks: weight. old typewriters are kinda heavy. Also, greater possibility for stuck keys [typewriting issues]. Also, no function keys present on most typewriters to switch scales. Lastly, tricky to install strings as this presents a whole new way of playing fixed pitches [strings] in relative ways, would likely be REAL tricky.
possible solutions: lighter material typewriter, perhaps from scratch, so an 'easier' design can eventually be figured out. But my goal here, is an 'unplugged samchillian.' Perhaps instead of making use of strings, wind could be used instead [then you get into tubes...]
Anyone?? Buler?
